Hand Drawn 2d Animation Tutorial - How to animate a basic head turn and time it out.

AMB Animation Academy presents this detailed step by step tutorial on Traditional Hand Drawn character animation. The scene is a female character similar to the popular 'Disney Princess' style of characters doing a standard head turn action.

The educational video outlines the process of sketching key frames and extreme poses and then making breakdown drawings that go in between the key images. The next step in the process is to make a spacing chart that will determine the timing of the scene and placement of the in-between drawings. In-betweens are essential frames that have to be drawn by the assistant animator to finalise the animation and give it a flowing, smooth finish. Ideally the key frames and break down frames should go through the clean-up process before the in-between drawings are made.
The tutorial concludes by explaining how to make the in between drawings in accordance to the spacing chart. Then the final animation is demonstrated.
The Animation was created using Toon Boom Storyboard Pro version 4.1 and a Wacom Cintiq.

Take the in-between test

Part 4 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7wlPTT0DG88

This Drawn animation tutorial in real time is the fifth in a series where I animate an entire scene.
Using Adobe Flash CS6 and a Wacom Cintiq I show how to draw over the rough animation that I tied down in the second tutorial. I select the key and Break down drawings and start to draw in a more detailed version of the character over them. I outline the central areas of focus such as how to make the drawings relate with each other better. how to maintain volume and shape consistency and how to refine arcs of motion. The drawings are taken to the finalising process where the key frames and breakdown frames are ready  for inbetweening.

How to plan Animation  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cZ73drkKK1A

This Drawn animation tutorial in real time is the first in a series where I animate an entire scene.
Using Adobe Flash CS6 and a Wacom Cintiq I show how to draw pose to pose character animation by drawing thumbnail sketches. The sketch art is then blocked in as rough character animation. Once the poses are completed the key drawings are then broken down by adding break down drawings and some in-between drawings to aid the action. I finalise the tutorial by explaining how to time the rough drawings apart from one another by using a timing and spacing chart

Drawn 2d Animation Tutorial - Learn Anatomy for Animation - How to Draw and Animate Human Arms

This is the first video in a proposed series where I simplify the drawing of human anatomy for use in hand drawn animation. This lecture focuses on Drawing and Animating the human arm for drawing comic or cartoon characters  In the video I demonstrate that by simplifying the basic muscle groups into simple and manageable shapes the arm can be animated effectively and convincingly.  I stress that proper life drawing must be done in accompaniment to the techniques in this video  in order to achieve the best possible results.
