2d Animation - Walk Cycle - Study Guide

Download the Walk Cycle Animation Study Pack Here!

http://ambanimationacademy.blogspot.co.uk/p/how-to-animate-walk-cycle.html

How To Animate a Walk cycle animation the professional way!
I have designed this fun walk cycle based on many messages and skype sessions received from a multitude of questioners ranging from amateurs, college graduates, professional animators and members of the indiedev , gamedev and game design community who understand basic walk actions but struggle at injecting fun and personality into them. The cycle features a cartoon character in its construction stage. This is so that a clear understanding can be gathered from the movement and shape manipulation via drawing and construction.

By downloading the walk cycle pack you’ll learn how to animate in a way beyond watching or reading. One of the most effective ways that I leaned animation was when I trained under a former Disney, Warner’s, and Bluth Animator. He would often give me piles of animation paper all with animation drawings and notes scribbled on them. I flipped through them, analysed the movement in accordance to the notes and then had a go at drawing in-between and breakdown frames. This process taught me more about animation in 3 days than the 3 years that I spent, wandering aimlessly in the dark at art school scratching my head in response to the rhetoric thrown at me from ill-informed and underdeveloped lecturers.

By downloading the pack you benefit from an interactive form of learning in a manner that a book or video cannot provide. You also help to support A.M.B Animation Academy in continuing to produce high quality instructional content, lectures and tutorials that are widely available and accessible to users of all abilities and backgrounds.

AMB Animation Academy Lecture - Art School worth it or not?

Above I answer a question put to me by an AMB Animation Academy Facebook member concerning the commonly asked question about the validity of attending art school or obtaining a college degree in art and design or animation in this day and age. I share my own experience as an example to my own personal conclusion in this matter but stress that one shoe size certainly does not fit all and that this is a question with no definitive answer. I also outline the fact that many people I have worked with in the industry have not attended any animation course or not even attained basic formal education. I hope you find the lecture, tutorial and how to do video insightful.

AMB Animation Academy Lecture - Are you good enough?

Above I talk about the eternal struggle that every artist or indeed every human being has to endure throughout their life as they develop and grow. The struggle is the mental process of accepting the self as it is in order for growth in any desired area to proceed in a natural healthy and unstifled manner. All too often the elements of ego and acceptance battle for priority in the artist or animators mind set thus rendering them in that uncomfortable position of doubt and uncertainty which then leads to inevitable insecurity. The security of an artists mindset is commonplace in a vast and wonderous world where there is inspiration at every turn. It is important to acknowledge ourselves as part of that wonderous world and our art as an individual and unique expression within it that is beyond comparison. I hope you find the lecture, tutorial and how to do video insightful.

Using Adobe Flash CS6 and a Wacom Cintiq I show how to draw over the rough animation that I tied down in the second tutorial. I select the key and Break down drawings and start to draw in a more detailed version of the character over them. In this episode I finish the breaking down process between the key animation frames. I then adjust my finished frames in accordance to the timing of my initial rough drawings via the timeline. Once this is done I finalise the drawings by checking their relationship between one another and ironing out any errors and inconsistencies that may lead to problems when drawing the in-between frames the animation. This episode focuses particularly on the process of in between drawings and utilising the light box in order to draw lines in certain places. I also outline that the lightbox must be utilised intelligently and switched off in order to see the drawing in context and address volume and consistency issues via flipping back and forth between drawings. I close by identifying other factors that an assistant animator needs to be aware of and must have as a required skillset. character model and construction. Hand Drawn 2d Animation Tutorial – How to Draw a Character Running towards the Camera Frame

AMB Animation Academy presents this detailed step by step tutorial on Traditional Hand Drawn 2d character animation. The scene is a female character similar to the popular 'Disney Princess' style of characters Running towards the camera and exiting the frame. Animating a run cycle or running action is a fundamental basic essential in character animation. Making the character run towards the screen in 3d perspective is a step above the basic animation cycle. This tutorial explains in detail via step by step instruction how to work out the perspective and then key frame poses of the running action. The educational video outlines the process of sketching key frames and extreme poses and then making breakdown drawings that go in between the key images. It also covers secondary elements such as animating hair, bouncing breasts and clothing. The next step in the process is to make a spacing chart that will determine the timing of the scene and placement of the in-between drawings. In-betweens are essential frames that have to be drawn by the assistant animator to finalise the animation and give it a flowing, smooth finish. Ideally the key frames and break down frames should go through the clean-up process before the in-between drawings are made. The tutorial concludes by explaining how to make the in between drawings in accordance to the spacing chart. Then the final animation is demonstrated. The tutorial comes with a detailed study companion pack that can be downloaded here The Animation was created using Toon Boom Storyboard Pro version 4.1 and a Wacom Cintiq.

Drawn 2d Animation Tutorial - Learn Anatomy for Animation - How to Draw and Animate Human Arms

This is the first video in a proposed series where I simplify the drawing of human anatomy for use in hand drawn animation. This lecture focuses on Drawing and Animating the human arm for drawing comic or cartoon characters  In the video I demonstrate that by simplifying the basic muscle groups into simple and manageable shapes the arm can be animated effectively and convincingly.  I stress that proper life drawing must be done in accompaniment to the techniques in this video  in order to achieve the best possible results.
